Utah – The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office
filed two first-degree felony charges Tuesday, including Criminal Homicide and Felony
Discharge of a Firearm, against Anthony Derek Long Soldier for the 2011 gang-related
shooting in South Salt Lake which resulted in the death of Stephen Angel Lopez
and the injury of a bystander.
outlined in greater detail in the attached statement of probable cause below, it is
alleged that Long Soldier, 36, shot and killed Lopez on Oct. 1, 2011. A bystander,
Joseph Gates, was shot in his left arm and survived his injuries.
