Salt Lake County's housing market has mirrored national housing trends. However, the Salt Lake Board of Realtors recently reported that sales for the last quarter of 2012 were up 14 percent compared to the same period in 2011. The median selling price of a home in Salt Lake County for the same period was up slightly to $223,000.
Salt Lake City continues to be an affordable and desirable place to live. Utah was ranked #1 for the best quality of life in Business Facilities magazine in 2010 and named #4 most livable state nationally by the 2010 Morgan Quitno Press ranking.
Salt Lake has also seen a resurgence of downtown residential projects recently. With the success of the residential units at the Gateway, more mixed-use projects that include residential are on the drawing boards. Several downtown residential real estate projects have just come online in the new downtown City Creek development. City Creek is expected to add another 10,000 residents to downtown Salt Lake City when their housing options are sold out. Units are being picked up quickly and limited stock is becoming more scarce.
