The health department regulates certain types of businesses in Salt Lake County whose operations can affect the public’s health and safety.

Health inspectors make surprise inspections and investigate any alleged violations in these establishments to ensure that these businesses operate in safe, hygienic conditions for the protection of the public.

We also offer education  and training to additional industries—even if the industry is not explicitly regulated by the department—on topics related to environmental responsibility and community health improvement (such as childhood nutrition and workplace immunization and tobacco policies).
