This week I kicked off the Mayor’s Inclusion Campaign. The goal is
simple and straightforward – everyone who walks through our doors or interacts
with any part of Salt Lake County government is welcomed and respected.
Salt Lake County is a modern-day melting pot. People from
different cultures and ethnic backgrounds are here for a variety of reasons,
but we share a universal desire—a safe, healthy, bright future for our
To be honest, I know that each of us may be more comfortable with
what is most familiar; that’s human nature. But if we step out of our comfort
zone we can learn about those who appear to be not like us, and we can
always behave respectfully towards them.
I know that the diversity in our community is a strength because we can learn and grow from one another's unique experiences. As part of the Inclusion Campaign, signs that say, "Salt Lake County Welcomes All" will be posted on county buildings. The signs serve as a simple reminder that Salt Lake County accepts and welcomes people of all backgrounds.
