Master planning phase for the Millcreek Community Center is complete!
Master Plan Document (7MB PDF Document)
During 2009 we will be conducting the next “programming” phase of the project. Architectural Nexus and their consultants have been selected to complete an in-depth analysis of the physical space in and around the community center, design development, construction contract documents and county oversight of facility construction. Programming will provide a detailed summary of the library, senior center and recreational/multipurpose components of the facility: outline their square footage, adjacency requirements, necessary fixtures and furniture, power and data needs, utility requirements and other information that will assist the architect in the design process.
Once the program is approved, the architect will move into the design phase of the process, which is broken into three sections: schematic design, design development and construction documents. During the schematic phase the architect will develop design proposals based on the program. As we progress into design development the architect will finalize the floor plan, site plan, materials, colors and overall look of the building and its elements. The construction document phase requires the architect to develop a checklist of elements required for constructing the building. Upon completing the design of the project we will put it out to bid, a contractor will be selected and a ground breaking will be planned.
Programming and design are scheduled to be completed in 2009 and we anticipate bidding to take place during January - February of 2010, with a groundbreaking in March April of 2010.
We appreciate the support and participation of the community. An excellent Master Plan was produced that outlines for the architect and the project development team the needs and desires of the Millcreek Community. Public input was received through emails, comment cards and public meetings. Comments reflect diverse ideas and suggestions that will be addressed through the programming and design of the new Community Center.
This facility will endeavor to provide opportunities, services and activities for all ages and interests in the Millcreek area. While not initially able to accommodate all wishes and needs, we intend to provide a facility that is flexible enough to grow and change with the community.
We will be holding additional public meetings that will be open for comment and analysis. The next meeting with new information about your community center will be in May 2009. We encourage everyone to attend and participate in this exciting project. Information will continue to be available at this web page, through emails, in the Millcreek Journal, community council meetings and at existing facilities.
We invite participation and encourage you to stay informed throughout the process. We have a busy and exciting year ahead of us as this project comes to fruition.
