The Office of Township Services will be improving 2300 East from I-80 to 3900 South. Construction began December 1st and will continue through 2016. This project will include the following elements:
Construction activities began on December 1st, 2015 on the west side of 2300 East between 3300 South and 3900 South. Work includes waterline relocation, new water service tie-ins, piping of irrigation ditch, and storm drain installation. This irrigation work is being done during the winter while the system is out of service and will be complete before the 2016 irrigation season begins. Work on the south side of 2300 East between 3300 South and 3900 South is anticipated to extend into spring 2016.Similar activities are expected to begin on the west side of 2300 East between Claybourne Avenue and 3300 South in January 2016 and continue through mid-summer 2016. Construction of the new roundabout between I-80 and Claybourne Avenue will begin in the spring, but the area will be used as for construction staging until then. The roundabout is expected to be operational in fall 2016.
What are the benefits of a Roundabout?
• Improved safety
• Decreased traffic speed off freeway
• Create a community entrance
• Provide access to Heritage Way
• Opportunity for landscaping
• Introduces a buffer between I-80 and the 2300 East community
The project team completed a traffic study to confirm that the roundabout would meet these project goals. The video below is based on the traffic model and shows that the roundabout moves traffic efficiently, achieving these goals even when accounting for traffic growth through the year 2040.
Please note: The graphic noted above is the actual design of the roundabout and side street traffic circles. For a larger image, follow this link to view a .pdf. The video does not accurately depict the side street traffic circles. The intent of the video is to show traffic movement through the roundabout.
Wondering how the new roundabout will affect your route? The video below shows how to navigate the roundabout to get from point A to point B, whether you are getting on or off at I-80. Learn more about the roundabout's benefits and how to travel through it here.
