Zoological Organizations
The Zoo, Arts and Parks Program provides funding for up to three zoological organizations. Zoological funding should be used to build organizational capacity, fund zoological facilities, to create stability and to provide adequate predictable support. Organizations that qualify for zoological funding have headquarters and a significant presence in Salt Lake County and serves and audience of 75,000 or more persons annually.

Organizations funded in the Zoological category in 2018:
The 2019 Tier I & Zoological grant application opens February 12, 2018. Applications for 2019 are due on May 11, 2018 at 3:00 PM
They are then carefully reviewed by the Tier I Advisory Board. The board makes funding recommendations to the County Council. Once the County Council approves the funding recommendations, ZAP staff will invite the recommended organizations to sign contracts. This process takes almost a full year.

Application Workshop
Organizations applying for zoological funding should plan to attend an application workshop offered by ZAP staff annually. The workshop will give you an overview of the application, an opportunity to ask questions and a hands-on start to filling out your application.

Submit an application
If your organization is eligible, and you've attended an application workshop, it's time to apply for funding. The Tier I and Zoological application will open mid-February and must be submitted online through ZoomGrants by May 11, 2018 at 3:00 PM. When you first sign in to ZoomGrants, please make sure you create a username and password. Once you have login information, you can begin your application.

Once your organization is recommended for funding, your organization must enter into a contract with Salt Lake County. Our contracts are approved by the district attorney's office. ZAP staff will offer a contract signing workshop that will outline your organization's contractual obligations. The date of this workshop for the 2018 application process has not yet been announced.
