Steps to Assist Clients

Remember that throughout the steps below, you can always get REAL TIME/ LIVE SUPPORT through the WebEx Team rooms.

  • You will receive a list of clients assigned to you. Start at the top of the list
  • Determine whether the client is eligible for expungement (“screening”):
    • Use the Utah State Courts Xchange Website to look up the client’s history using the client’s name- including maiden name, aliases, etc. & their date of birth.
    • See detailed screening instructions.
  • Next, record their entire criminal conviction history in the Screening Spreadsheet.
    • This spreadsheet is a tool for you to analyze eligibility. Filling out the spreadsheet will also allow you to share the criminal history easily with The Experts who can help you with any questions you have.
    • The spreadsheet is not submitted to anyone or any entity once you are done helping a particular client. You can discard it at that point.
  • Craft an email detailing the next steps the client should take toward the path to expungement. Attach relevant criminal dockets to discuss.
  • Call the client on the phone to discuss the email you just sent them. Explain the expungement process in its entirety and how you are assisting them with the first step of a larger process. For clients that do not pass the eligibility screening, discuss the options they may be able to take in the future to gain eligibility: 402 reductions, paying off fines, and/or paying the office of state debt collection, and waiting the mandated time until they can be eligible.
  • If you are seeking a 402 reduction on behalf of the client, complete any hearings available in the virtual Courtroom.
    • Reconnect with client to relay outcome of these actions. Repeat as necessary.
  • If the client is eligible for expungement, send an email to Heather Bailey  (expunge@slco.org). Heather will then contact the client to fill out and sign the application for BCI.
  • Send the client a FINAL email detailing: a summary of what occurred during the remote expungement day event and what the client should expect/ do in the coming months.
  • Fill out the Outcome Form for each client when all above applicable step are complete.
