    Please note: these forms have specific drop-down lists and questions. If you do not have Microsoft Excel, you will need to call the Reservationist to make your reservations. It will not help to submit these forms in any other format (PDF, GoogleDocs, etc.)

      The Hansen Dome Theatre (aka Star Theatre or Planetarium Theatre) is a domed theatre 50 feet in diameter. Our Dome Theatre seats 190 people, with room for up to four wheelchairs. Dome Theatre programs involve state-of-the-art animation and the latest in planetarium virtual-3D projection. Many programs, especially for schools, include live interactions with our trained presenters and education specialists. All of these titles are available for school schedule. Not all of them are on the current public schedule.

      Must have 40 people or more to pick a show (Teacher's choice) during school morning hours:

      • 9:30 AM & 10:30 AM (year-round)
      • 11:30 AM & 12:30 PM (approximately Labor Day through Memorial Day)
      Skywatch for 2nd/3rd Grades
      • Experience sunrise and sunset and watch the moon change shape over time. See how Earth"s rotation causes the motions of the Sun, Moon, and stars, and see the spherical Earth, Moon, and Sun from Space.
      Skywatch for 6th Grade

      Pick two modules for your one-hour Skywatch Dome presentation

      • Module 1 MOON PHASES - Students will view the Moon and its phases from Earth, as well as watch the Moon as it orbits around Earth, creating the phases.
      • Module 2 SEASONS – Students will experience the changing height of the Sun in the sky at different times of year as well as see Earth and its tilt as it orbits around the Sun.
      • Module 3 SOLAR SYSTEM – We will focus on the planets and their attributes, as well as the technology being used to observe and understand our solar system.
      • Module 4 SCALE/CONSTELLATIONS – Learn how to find seasonal constellations and gain a new appreciation of size and distance in the universe.

      The Orbital ATK IMAX Theatre is a large-format, flat screen film theatre. It is 55-feet high and 70-feet long. Our IMAX theatre seats 288 people, with room for up to 8 wheelchairs. Most IMAX films are shown in 3D with special glasses provided. Some are in 2D. To learn more about IMAX technology, visit

      • Free IMAX entry for Utah public schools; there is limited availability for this offering, and once we have exhausted yearly funding, regular ticketing costs will apply. Please book your reservations early to ensure that we can accommodate your free ticketing to the IMAX Theatre.

      IMAX Popcorn/Drink Special Available
      • $2.00 per person for IMAX shows only (no concessions in the Hansen Dome Theater or Science on a Sphere exhibit).
      • We will need to know the total number of popcorn/drink packages requested as part of your reservation.
      • Done by our educational experts, this covers a topic the teacher chooses. It is interactive and a fun educational experience to complement Dome and IMAX shows.
      • Lasts 20-30 minutes and showings are available Mondays to Fridays between 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM.
      • SOS shows are free to Utah Public and Charter schools and home schools affiliated with a Utah Public School District.
      • For all other schools, it is $3/person. When booked with a Dome show or IMAX movie, it is free.

      • The Planet Fun Gift Store offers a great variety of gifts including many science-related products. Prices range from $2 to $50.
      • We require 1 adult for every 10 students while inside the store.

      Reservation Guidelines

      • Must be made two weeks in advance for 20 people or more, some exceptions apply.
      • Our busiest time of the year is always mid-Spring. Since the demand is so high, if you would like to come during this time, we recommend scheduling at least 2 months prior to your trip.
      • Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance.
      • Reservations are a “first come, first served” basis.
      • Reservations are not guaranteed until you receive your final reservation confirmation sheet which will be emailed no later than two weeks before your scheduled visit.

      • Read the Kids Rules and Tips that everyone in the group needs to be aware of and follow. All teachers and adult chaperones are responsible for following the Adult Rules and Tips

      Special Needs or Accommodations

      • Wheelchair seating in both Hansen Dome and Orbital ATK IMAX Theatres.
      • Four closed-captioning, individual monitors for the hearing impaired, for a few cc-enabled titles in the IMAX Theatre.
      • A red light on a headband is available for ASL interpreters in Hansen Dome Theatre.
