The Sun, Earth and Moon are spheres with amazing surfaces. The sun gives off light equally in all directions and the Earth and Moon are always half lit. This makes our view of the Moon change over time. A close-up view of the Moon’s surface will show off amazing craters and large “seas.”
Tornados and hurricanes are two examples of extreme weather that reveal the forces of nature. By examining weather conditions such as temperature, humidity and wind speed, students will learn how events like this form, both locally and on a global scale.
Earth's shifting land masses impact the geography of Earth in a variety of ways. Students will be able to view recent earthquakes recorded all over the globe and learn their causes and effects, including a global look of the positions and shapes of continents over the last 250 million years!
Gain a unique global perspective of Earth and how the angle of its axis is directly responsible for the seasons we experience. Dynamic changes in vegetation and ice coverage show how the different hemispheres experience opposite seasons.
Students will explore the Sun and each of the planets in our solar system as amazing spherical 3-D models, with high resolution images of solar flares, planetary atmospheres and surfaces, including the surface of Pluto for the first time!
Our understanding of the solar system has come from decades of exploration by robotic explorers. Many of these spacecraft are still making new discoveries, while others are currently speeding towards their destinations. Students will learn about many of the spacecraft in our solar system and what technologies they use to explore the planets.
For decades Mars has captured our imaginations. As our understanding of Mars has grown, “Follow the water” has shaped NASA’s strategy in exploring the red planet. Students will learn about the fleet of robotic explorers currently there and some of the exciting discoveries they have made!
Exploring climate change focuses on how we study Earth ’s climate and the challenges of creating models that describe the long-term effects of changes being studied and observed.
Plate tectonics and geological changes are explored in this lesson. Students will learn how convergent and divergent boundaries are associated with these changes and the natural processes that result from them, such as volcanoes and earthquakes.
Nature and mankind sometimes impact each other in impactful, catastrophic ways. We will explore some of the most devastating natural and man-made events from around the world and show how global processes influences the effects of both.
