Aimee Winder Newton has been serving on the Salt Lake County Council since January 2014 and served as council chair in 2018. Her district encompasses Murray, Taylorsville, West Valley City and West Jordan, and a small portion of South Salt Lake and Millcreek.
During her service on the council, Aimee has focused on breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty, increasing government transparency, improving the criminal justice system, advocating for mental health resources, and greater budget accountability.
She serves on the following boards: Salt Lake County Library, Jordan River Commission, Utah Mental Health Crisis Response Commission, Prevent Child Abuse Utah, Central Utah Water Conservancy District, Utah Indigent Defense Commission, Salt Lake County Behavioral Health Advisory Council, Utah Intergenerational Poverty Advisory Board, and the Chamber West Board of Governors.
Aimee graduated from Taylorsville High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah. She started her own business in 2003 as a mortgage broker. She has also been involved extensively in city government as a planning commissioner, citizen activist, and as Taylorsville City's communications director.
Aimee and her husband, Matt, have been married for 25 years and enjoy their four children, ages 23, 21, 17 and 15. In her spare time she loves to help women get involved in government, play the piano, and travel with her family. She is a big fan of peppermint ice cream with Leatherby’s hot fudge.
