Salt Lake County Facility Closures
Unfortunately, during an outbreak like this, it’s necessary to close facilities and suspend services to limit the spread of the COVID-19.
This is our most up to date list of facilities and programs that are temporarily closed or modified service delivery.
Salt Lake County Government Center
In order to implement best practices to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Government Center (GC) is closed until further notice, but business operations are not.
Facilities Services aims to make access for essential employees and essential service customers as easy as possible while supporting the overall business closure.
Access for Essential Employees and the Public:
- North and South main entrances (access from the east) will be unlocked Mon-Friday 8 am-5 pm.
- Upon arrival, employees and the public should let the Public Safety Bureau (PSB) Deputy know where they are headed.
- All room reservations are canceled until otherwise noted. Facilities will contact all groups with upcoming reservations.
- Immunization Clinics: Closed.
- WIC: Virtual services only; call 385-468-3660 for assistance.
- Vital Records: Open only at 610 South 200 East, Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm.
- STD Clinic: Open by appointment only.
- Environmental Health: Building closed; call 385-468-3860 for assistance.
- Injury Prevention/Car Seats: Closed.
- Travel Clinic: Closed.
- Tuberculosis Clinic: Open by appointment only.
The Salt Lake County Animal Services shelter is not closed, but we are limiting regular lobby access and reducing foot traffic as much as possible in order to reduce the possible spread of disease. We are still functioning as normal, just without face-to-face interactions wherever possible. Services will be available by appointment only.
Returns to Owners: If someone believes their pet is at the shelter, call 385-468-7387, or email email@example.com, during normal business hours to set up an appointment. Please leave a message if the line is busy. Allow up to 48 hours for an enforcement specialist to respond.
Adoptions: If someone is interested in adopting a specific pet, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to set up an appointment during business hours. Allow up to 72 hours for an adoptions specialist to make contact.
Animal Emergencies/Incoming Stray Pets: If someone has an animal emergency or a stray/lost animal, please call Dispatch at 801-743-7000 and an Animal Control Officer will be in contact.
Events & Volunteers: At this point, we have made the decision to cancel all events and programs on-site through April 4. Both volunteers and community service workers will not be allowed in the building during this time as well.
The pets at Animal Services are healthy and well cared for by staff at all times. Updates will be posted on our social media channels. Visit AdoptUtahPets.org for animal-related questions or information.

Updates as of March 23
Salt Lake County Library locations continue to remain closed until further notice. All the Salt Lake County Library branches have been examined after the March 18 earthquake, and branches only suffered some superficial cosmetic damage, and many fallen books.
While our physical branches are closed to the public, we have extensive online resources available. The County Library's collection of digital resources gives you online access to e-books, magazines, audiobooks, language tools, online courses, homework help, and more. See a complete list of The County Library’s digital offerings here.
Here are some frequently asked questions we’d like to address:
Q: What materials are available online?
A: Explore our amazing online resources like Flipster (eMagazines), RB Digital (eBooks), Rosetta Stone (language tools), Lynda.com (online learning), and so much more, all available for FREE with your County Library card at thecountylibrary.org
We are also holding an online Storytime, Monday-Friday at 10:30am, accessible on our Facebook page.
Q: Should I return my materials? Will I accrue fines or fees?
A: Book drops at the branches are closed, so please hold on to your materials. We will not be assessing fines or fees while the branches are closed.
Q: I didn’t pick up my hold – will it still be there when the branches reopen?
A: Yes. We will be extending holds, and they should still be at your pickup branch when it reopens.
Q: I requested materials through Interlibrary Loan – what will happen with those?
A: We will work with other libraries to extend the loan dates for requests that were already in process. We are suspending new Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests.
Q: I don't have a library card. Can I still access online resources?
A: If you are a Salt Lake County resident, please fill out the online application here. After you've applied online, please call Customer Service at (801) 943-4636 to verify your information. After that, you'll be able to access the online resources.
Q: When will the branches reopen?
A: We are working closely with the Mayor’s Office and Salt Lake County Health Department recommendations to assess when branches will reopen. We do not have a date yet.
