Probation Services Frequently Ask Questions

Benefits of Probation

Overall, incarceration alone is an ineffective deterrent to criminal behavior.  Probation offers an alternative by allowing appropriate offenders the privilege of being out of jail, providing access to necessary treatment, education and social services, while ensuring that offenders are held accountable for their actions.

Probation strives to:

  • Assist the courts in determining an offender's appropriateness for probation or need for incarceration.
  • Access programs that will help offenders address substance abuse and criminal behavior.
  • Address the impact of the offender’s crime on victims and the community.

Impact the lives of offenders in order to reduce the likelihood they will become re-involved in the criminal justice system.

Probation Services charge a supervision fee of $30 per month.  Fees are paid at the Criminal Justice location with a money order, cashier’s check, or Visa/MasterCard.

Additional costs incurred with private providers may include drug/alcohol testing, treatment or classes, ignition interlock device, or other services ordered by the court.
