Salt Lake County offers a full immersion summer internship. The intern will participate in the screening of cases, drafting and arguing motions, conducting preliminary hearings, bench trials, and traffic hearings, and preparing for and completing jury trials. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and hard-working and ask appropriate questions to prepare for all aspects of criminal prosecution. Excellent time management skills and a team player attitude are preferred. Criminal procedure and evidence are required by state statute in order to appear in court under the third year practice rule.
This is an unpaid internship and the student must be registered in their respective school’s internship class. The duration is 6-8 weeks with a flexible working schedule to be determined by student and supervising attorney.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must successfully pass an initial criminal background check and continuously meet the requirements of the Bureau of Criminal Information (BCI).
Law Clerks will assist attorneys by performing a wide range of legal-related duties. Law clerks positions are paid.
**This is an “At Will” position which is FLSA non-exempt. Accordingly, it is not eligible for County benefits.
