About

The Salt Lake County Health Department Travel Clinic offers international travelers the education, immunizations, and prescriptions necessary to stay safe and healthy while abroad.

Before you call, please know all countries you’ll be visiting. The Travel Clinic is located at the Salt Lake County Government Center in Suite S2-400.

Schedule an appointment with us as soon as you know you’ll be traveling internationally; some immunizations require more than one shot spread over a period of time, and others require time before travel to be most effective.

Travel Facts

  • There is an 80% chance you will have an illness when traveling in a less-developed country.
  • There is an 80% chance you will seek medical care while traveling internationally.
  • After returning home, there is a 25% chance you will experience diarrhea, respiratory illness, a skin problem, or a fever.

You can improve your individual degree of risk with proper education, immunizations, and prescriptions.

Our travel nurses are all members of the International Society of Travel Medicine.

Education

Our travel nurses receive extensive continuing education to stay apprised of diseases circulating in various parts of the world, as well as political and social circumstances that could impact a traveler’s health or safety.

During your visit with us, you’ll receive customized education and information about topics applicable to your destination(s), which could include:

  • Food and water safety
  • Personal protection and safety
  • Overseas medical insurance
  • Evacuation insurance
  • Minimizing and coping with jet lag
  • Special considerations while traveling with children
  • Travel medical kits
  • Preparing for and handling high altitudes
  • Treating “Traveler’s Diarrhea”
  • Special considerations for traveling while pregnant

The following immunizations are available at the Travel Clinic:

Prescriptions

We can prescribe several medications you may need while overseas, depending on your destination. Your health, safety, and comfort while enjoying your trip will depend on your preparations in advance.

Common travel prescriptions include medications for preventing:

  • Malaria
  • Motion sickness
  • Diarrhea
  • Fungal infections
  • Jet lag
  • Altitude sickness
