One of the reasons I enjoy working for Salt Lake County is the aspect of public service. I find it immensely rewarding to serve in a vocation that provides satisfaction beyond monetary remuneration as I play a small part in making Salt Lake County a better place to work, live, and recreate. Thomas Jefferson conveyed my sentiment more eloquently, "No interests are dearer to men than those which ought to be secured to them by their form of government, and none deserve better of them than those who contribute to the amelioration of that form."
As a proud merit employee of 18 years, I’ve had the privilege to work for several divisions- beginning in the Assessor’s office, then Public Works, Youth Services, Aging Services, the Elections Division and I am currently enjoying all the challenges of Contracts and Procurement. SLCo has supported me throughout each phase of my life, beyond just a paycheck. My son attended the onsite daycare, making the stress of being a new mom a much more pleasant experience. He is 14 years old now and he still remembers my co-workers (and their candy dish) and the chocolate milk we’d get every day in the cafeteria . The Tuition Reimbursement program reduced the financial burden of pursuing higher education and allowed me the room to dream bigger. I’ve been able to “grow up” within the County, moving to new positions and divisions as I sought new challenges. For me, there is nowhere else that I could imagine that would have encouraged and supported me to be who I have become toda!
I love my job because… I am proud of working for an organization that makes a difference in people’s lives and our community. I love being part of that. I also love the people I work with and feel supported by my team and management. We work hard and are recognized for doing so. I love the flexibility of my job and the opportunity of learning and developing new things. My strengths and opinions are utilized and valued. I feel very fortunate to work for Salt Lake County.
