Materials Accepted

The Salt Lake Valley Landfill accepts all municipal solid waste. More information about hard-to-recycle items can be found at the Salt Lake County Recycle website, 

Asbestos

The Salt Lake Valley Landfill accepts friable and non-friable asbestos. Friable asbestos is accepted at the rate of $500/ ton and non-friable asbestos is accepted at $100/ton. Prices will be pro-rated according to the weight of the asbestos- containing material being disposed.

Asphalt and Concrete
Clean asphalt and concrete are accepted. If there is any rebar or other material, it will be charged the mixed trash rate.
Campers and Boats
Campers and boats are accepted at the mixed trash rate. All fluids and refrigerators must be removed. The DMV requires proof of ownership for any item that requires registration. If you do not have a proof of ownwership, please contact the DMV.
Dirt

Fill dirt is accepted at the soil rate. These loads must be pre-approved by Tom Burrup. For specific standards and all questions regarding dirt disposal, please contact Tom Burrup at tburrup@slco.org

 

Electronics
The Health Department's Household Hazardous Waste facility accepts electronics, including CRT TVs, at both the Salt Lake Valley and  Trans-Jordan Landfill locations.
Furniture

Items such as couches, futons, dressers, etc. are accepted.

Green Waste (grass clippings, tree trimmings, etc.)

All your tree limbs, grass clippings, and leaves are charged at the green waste rate.

If your green waste is bagged, you will be charged the mixed trash rate.

 

Household Hazardous Waste (Chemicals, paint, light bulbs, etc.)

Household Hazardous Waste is anything in and around your home that is poisonous, flammable, corrosive or toxic. It is many of your cleaning supplies, paint,  yard care chemicals, pesticides, fuels, batteries, electronics, used oil and antifreeze.

Salt Lake County Health Department operates a Household Hazardous Waste facility on Salt Lake Valley and Trans-Jordan landfill properties. Visit their website for more information. 

Items Containing Freon (Refrigerators, a/c units, etc.)

Freon containing items such as refrigerators, freezers and a/c units are accepted. The Freon and other refrigerants will be removed for proper disposal according to federal regulations before the items are recycled.

This is in addition to any other applicable garbage fees.

No commercial refrigerators or freezers are accepted. 

Mattresses and Box Springs

Mattresses and box springs are accepted. 

This is in addition to any other applicable garbage fees.

Mobile Homes
Mobile homes are accepted for $300. All fluids and refrigerators must be removed. The DMV requires proof of ownership for any item that requires registration. If you do not have a proof of ownership, please contact the DMV.
Pre-Approved Cover Material
Materials that can be used as daily cover at the landfill, such as shredded tires, auto fluff, etc., are accepted at the rate of $12.00/ton. Must be pre-approved by Tom Burrup at tburrup @slco.org
Recycling

Please proceed to the Landfill Scales for directions to the recycling bins. No charge to the public. There are bins for flattened cardboard, plastic bottles, metal cans, glass bottles, and clothing.  No plastic bags, styrofoam, or fast food to-go containers.

Sod
Sod is accepted at the same rate as soil.
Special Waste (Large quantities of food, etc.)
Waste classified as special handling, such as animal carcasses and large quantities of food waste, will be accepted at the rate of $100/ton. Prices will be pro-rated according to the weight of the material being disposed. For all questions regarding special waste or if a certificate of destruction is needed, please contact Tom Burrup. Tires

Tires are accepted. There is a limit of 4 tires per load. 

This is in addition to any other applicable garbage fees.

For larger quantities of tires, please visit Liberty Tire Recycling.
