Salt Lake City, UT- At the beginning of her term, Mayor Jenny Wilson announced she intended to make the environment (and particularly air quality) a priority in her administration - which is why she created the county’s first-ever Office of Environmental Services. After an extensive search, the Environmental Program Manager has been selected to head the new office. Under the direction of Michael Shea, the Office of Environmental Services will expand Salt Lake County’s presence in this important space to benefit the communities we serve.
Shea is a graduate of Westminster College and has a Master of Public Administration from the University of Utah. He most recently worked as a Senior Policy Associate focusing on environmental health-related matters at HEAL UTAH. Prior to that, Shea was the first Development Manager for Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy. Shea also served as an Associate Field Director for the Count My Vote ballot initiative. Shea is no stranger to Salt Lake County having previously worked as a Community Relations Specialist in the Mayor’s Office.
Mayor Wilson said, “I am thrilled to have Michael join the team. As the Environmental Program Manager, he will evaluate current environmental programs, develop and implement future programs and recommend new policies and initiatives. Michael will also coordinate with county agencies and regional partners, bring stakeholders together to maximize impact and develop programs that encourage constituents to follow sustainability best practices.”
