SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah—Hundreds of Midvale-area families won’t need to worry about buying winter coats for their kids, thanks to the County Library and Operation Warm.

On Friday, October 25, the County Library will provide 700 brand new coats and 700 books to children in need who attend Midvale Elementary School through its partnership with Operation Warm. The children will also be given a snack as part of the County Library’s Kids’ Café partnership with the Utah Food Bank.

“The great thing about this partnership is how we’re getting coats to kids and families who actually need them,” Branch Manager Davie Bird said. “These coats are going to be well used, and we think the books will be, too.”

Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson will be in attendance, as well as Midvale Mayor Robert Hale, members of the Midvale City Council, and volunteers from the Midvale Senior Center and the Latinos in Action group at Hillcrest High School.

Operation Warm is teaming up with libraries and service organizations across the country to give a brand-new coat and book to each child who participates. This unique service project not only provides children with necessities, but introduces kids and their families to all that their neighborhood library branch has to offer beyond books. This program will inspire literacy and learning by helping children get to school and to their local library on cold and wintry days.

The County Library provides many services to kids and families in need, including free computer and internet access, after-school snacks, educational programs and a place where they can enjoy heating/air conditioning. For more information, visit

When: Friday, October 25, 3 p.m.
Where: The County Library | Tyler, 8041 S Wood St (55 W)
