Salt Lake County to Break Ground on New Recreation Center in Draper
Clayton Scrivner -
Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams and Draper City Mayor Troy Walker will join officials and residents to kick off the 18-month construction schedule for the LEED Gold certified 59,817 square foot facility.
“Families will soon be able to enjoy getting fit, having fun and spending time with friends,” said Mayor McAdams. “Our facilities are an affordable way for everyone in the county to participate in fitness activities and I’m sure this center will be a busy place, once it opens.”
The Draper Recreation Center will feature an 8-lane competition lap pool with spectator seating, leisure pool with water slide and play amenities, a field house, dividable party room, drop-in child care space, dance/multi-use room, fitness area, changing area-locker room and administration offices.
“We are excited to bring this community asset to the citizens of Draper,” said Parks and Recreation Division Director Martin Jensen. “The new center will link to the existing Draper outdoor pool, making one multi-purpose facility that residents can enjoy year-round.”
Funding for the project is made possible thanks to the 2016 ZAP 3 Parks & Recreation Bond, Draper City, and Canyons School District. The facility was designed by Architectural Nexus and will be built by Layton Construction. It is expected to open in early 2020.
