SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah—Play games and connect with others in the community during a free annual event all about games at the County Library.

On Saturday, November 2, the County Library will host International Games Day at the Library’s Viridian Event Center from 10 am–10 pm, where there will be games for all levels and ages, including Tapestry, Wingspan, Copenhagen, Museum, Tiny Towns, Pipeline, Century: A New World, Sierra West, The Artemis Project, Gentes and more.

“The coolest thing about International Games Day is the ability to try out a bunch of different games for free. A lot of these games are pretty beginner friendly, and others could cost you $60 each just to try out,” Librarian Mindy Hiatt said. “Games help people learn and apply what they are learning. There’s definitely a reading element to games, there are numbers and mathematics, logic, problem solving, social skills—you name it.”

Related tabletop gaming programs regularly take place at various County Library branches. To find a program, search “game” in the online calendar: thecountylibraryorg/calendar.

About International Games Day
This annual tradition is an initiative run by volunteers from around the world and hosted by the American Library Association’s Games and Gaming Round Table (GameRT), in collaboration with Nordic Game Day, the Australian Library and Information Association, and L’Associazione Italiana Biblioteche. Games, both video and tabletop, are in a golden age of innovation and creativity. Librarians are harnessing this collaborative power and using it to engage patrons in critical thinking and immersive play.
