Salt Lake County Recognized, Yet Again, for Excellence in Financial Management

Salt Lake County, UT – The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded Salt Lake County the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year that ended December 31, 2020.
Salt Lake County’s 2020 annual comprehensive financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
“Salt Lake County is among the very top tier of well-run counties in the nation, and we are again being recognized for our success,” said Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. “When our behind-the-scenes processes are done well, we maximize our tax-payers’ revenue with effectively delivered services. It takes effort and coordination, and Salt Lake County is proud of our success.”
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment for Salt Lake County. This is the 35th consecutive year that the County has achieved this prestigious award.
“Our financial accounting team is second to none and I’m very proud of their efforts. The team is dedicated to the financial integrity of Salt Lake County,” said Deputy Mayor Darrin Casper, Salt Lake County’s Chief Financial Officer.
Salt Lake County’s AAA bond rating remains one of the strongest in the nation, with three major rating agencies giving Salt Lake County thae highest possible rating of AAA on its underlying general obligation debt, effectively placing it in the top 1% of all counties in terms of creditworthiness.
Mayor Jenny Wilson champions a strategic and results-oriented agenda that guides the County’s priorities in four distinct areas. Her priorities and achievements in 2020 included: standard of living improved for those left behind; safe & healthy people; smart & inclusive growth; and smart government.
