Olympus Hills Bike Park Statement

PR - Email

Salt Lake County, Millcreek and Holladay Issue Joint Statement on Olympus Hills Park

In 2018, Salt Lake County, Millcreek and Holladay officials were approached by mountain bike advocates about the possibility of installing a bike skills park on the eastern section of Olympus Hills Park in Holladay. After some preliminary feasibility work, the county and its municipal partners worked hard to gauge community interest by soliciting public input – receiving and processing hundreds of comments on both sides of the issue.

Together we have determined it is not in the best interest of the Olympus Hills Park to build the proposed bike park amenities. The 11-acre site has been utilized as a passive recreation destination with walking trails and benches and it will remain as it is currently designed.

We understand the need for added bicycle amenities in all parts of the valley. Mountain biking and trail riding has grown in popularity and is a healthy activity that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. We support these efforts and want to work with bicycle advocates to identify areas in the valley to build more bike parks. We will continue to work strategically to find locations that are long-term solutions to meet the needs of biking in the Salt Lake Valley.
