Marv Jenson Recreation Center Closure
Project Overview
Salt Lake County has set the date for the closure of Marv Jenson Recreation Center as March 31, 2020. Marv Jenson has been a well-loved and well-used community resource for over 35 years. After an extensive study it was determined that a complete rebuild would be required to bring Marv Jenson to the standards the County has set for recreation centers. While we know this facility is still a strong recreation asset in South Jordan, it is not economically feasible to rebuild or continue to operate the facility.
We recognize this will have an impact on all of our patrons and we want to assure you that we will work closely with each of you to ensure you have the information you need to access other facilities and programs at our other recreation centers. Salt Lake County is also continuing to work closely with South Jordan and the Jordan School District to meet the future recreation and aquatic needs of the community.
In addition to working with the staff at Marv Jenson to find the resources patrons need, additional information can also be found below.
Also we would like to offer the following times where representatives of the Parks and Recreation administration will be at the center to answer any additional questions that patrons may have:
Friday, May 10th from 10 am - 12 pm
Wednesday, May 15th from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
We are grateful for your continued support of our programs and thank you for working with us as we transition.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Marv Jenson center was originally built in the early 1980’s as a private fitness club and is currently in need of costly repairs and updates that exceed the financial ability to keep the facility safely open to the public.
The Marv Jenson Recreation Center at 10300 South Redwood Road is planned to close March 31, 2020.
We have realistic estimates of all the needed repairs for the building to stay safe over time and it would be at $7-10 million. To replace the the facility and build to county standards the cost would be at least $20 million. Also, as construction costs rise, so do these estimates.
Salt Lake County will sell the Marv Jenson property on Redwood Road. Interested parties should contact Derrick Sorensen, Real Estate Manager at dlsorensen@slco.org or (385) 468-0341.
Salt Lake County will maintain ownership of the 18 acres and it will remain park space.
No, Salt Lake County will find them opportunities within other Parks and Recreation facilities.

- Draper Recreation Center in Draper (Opening in Spring 2020)
Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation has courts at:
- JL Sorenson Recreation Center in Herriman

We will accommodate patrons at another center or refund the balance.
We will continue to work with the Jordan School District to finalize a plan that meets the needs of their high school swim teams. For detailed information contact the school district.
