Counseling

Salt Lake County Youth Services has several different no-cost therapy programs to meet the needs of youth and families in our community.

Counseling Services

We offer the following services:

  • Free walk-in crisis counseling for youth ages 8-17 at one of our two Juvenile Receiving Center (JRC) locations (South Salt Lake and West Jordan). Referrals for additional services can be made at time of walk-in and may include referral for one of our other therapy programs. Walk-in therapy is typically available at either location between 10am and 8pm Monday through Friday with limited weekend availability in South Salt Lake only. Case Management services are available 24 hours a day at our South Salt Lake location and from 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday at the West Jordan location. Please note; crisis counseling is based on therapist availability and is not guaranteed.
  • 8 weeks of free mental health therapy for youth ages 8-17 that reside in Salt Lake County. There are no income requirements for this service. Youth with private insurance that will likely need longer-term counseling may be referred to their insurance company to see a provider in their network.
  • On-going (longer-term) mental health therapy for those youth and young adults that qualify financially (ages 8-24). Our target population for this service is Medicaid clients, under-insured clients, and un-insured clients. Please contact us to see if you qualify.
  • Substance Use Disorder counseling for youth up to age 20. We provide an assessment and Standard Out-Patient treatment or referral to another agency for youth who need a higher level of care. We are able to provide this service to all youth that reside in Salt Lake County with no income or insurance restrictions.
