Automatic Expungement

Some low-level records will be automatically expunged by the courts. No application or petition is required.

If your case was dismissed, you may have to wait for the courts to automatically expunge. You might want to remove the link between your personal identifying information and the case while you wait.

How can I check if my case was expunged?

Checking to see if your case has already been expunged:

  • If you have a copy of your case number you can access this information at MyCase.
  • If you do not have a copy of your case number, you will need to look it up using the Xchange case search service.
  • Public terminals with free Xchange access are available at most district court locations.

*Once you are on MyCase and you enter in the case number, you will be able to see a private record that is only accessible by you if it has been expunged.

Limited information for expunged cases will be available in MyCase.
