In creating the West General Plan, the preservation of lands and functioning ecosystems in Salt Lake County and its wetlands were prioritized. Community and industrial development respect the character and features of the natural landscapes.

The Canyons Management Program takes a holistic approach to the planning, relationship, and preservation of all canyons within Salt Lake County. We strive to understand our canyons through the lens of our community and the integral connections to our urban ecological system.
Community farming is a great way to get involved in sustainable land use. Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation partners with several local nonprofit organizations to connect people with healthy food options, in their community, by providing dedicated space in our parks for gardening and farming.
