The following locations accept antifreeze, batteries, oil, and paint. They cannot accept tires.
Common household alkaline batteries are generally not hazardous and can be disposed of in your trash can if you follow these precautions:
- Gather used alkaline batteries in a cardboard box or plastic container to prevent sparks.
- Tape 9-volt terminals to prevent fire risk.
**Note that we cannot accept empty or dried latex paint cans.**

Many auto-related businesses throughout the county also accept used oil (but only oil—no antifreeze or paint), including hydraulic/engine oil, brake fluid, transmission oil, transformer oil, and synthetic motor oil. While mattresses are not considered hazardous waste, recycling is the environmentally friendly way to get rid of a mattress (and/or box springs) that you no longer need. There is one mattress recycler in Salt Lake County that will responsibly dispose of your old mattress (for a small fee) and keep the waste out of our landfill.
Mattresses and box springs must be dry and free of bed bugs.

For a nominal fee, most tire dealers will accept your old tires when you purchase new ones. If you have additional tires to dispose of, there is one tire recycler in Salt Lake County that will accept waste tires (again, for a small fee):
